Daily Devotional | Waiting On His Promise

Genesis 15:1-4 NIV
“After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.” But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.” Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.”

God promised Abram and Sarai a child from their own body regardless of age. As Sarai matured pass her childbearing years, she grew very impatient and decided to take matters into her own hands. Sarah convinced her husband to bear a child with her maid Hagar… Ishmael was born.  Hagar ran away with her son after Sarai dealt harshly with her. Sarai was filled with regret. How many times have you made a rash decision and it backfired?

When you are in doubt or impatient, WAIT ON GOD!  Decision making outside the will of God will only lead to regret, despair and delayed blessings. When God promises us something, we must believe. Regardless of how much time has passed, BELIEVE! God’s time and our time is completely different. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

In John 15:7, Jesus said, “If you abide in me, and my word abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you”. Trust in the Lord and wait on all his promises for they will surely come to pass with joy. Amen
