Daily Devotional | Staying In God’s Blessings

Proverbs 10:22 NIV
“The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.”

As a pastor, I have encountered people who testified about a blessing they received from God.  As time passed, that same blessing brought pain, strife, separation, and even death! Moving forward, I was determined to stay connected to the Holy Spirit so that I can minister effectively regarding God’s blessings.
Readers…pay close attention to today’s devotional.  To fully receive the blessings of God, God requires us to believe in Him when all of our being is covered over with doubt, suspicion, and disbelief. God is a God of abundant blessings. His blessings are meant to stay a lifetime, and will get better with age.  “The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it”. (Proverbs 10:22 NIV).   You will immediately forgo a blessing when you begin to worship the blessing, and forsake the blesser, GOD! For example, the Israelites began to idolize the gold and silver given to them by God  during their deliverance from Egypt, and that changed the course of their three days journey into forty years! (Exodus 32)
If God blesses us with a lot of stuff , it’s so we can be a blessing to others and become a glimpse of His kingdom in the midst of a messed up world. Luke says, “Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with money-bags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”  The more stuff we have, the more it insulates us from the needs of others. Everyone (both wealthy and poor) has needs, but  pursuing bigger better things removes us from intersecting with those in need. Does God choose to bless some with larger houses, nicer cars, and more resources? Certainly. Does God lead some Christians to reach out to the wealthy with the good news of Jesus? Of course…
If you belong to a church, Tithing is an integral part of receiving blessings from God. The tithe is the tenth of all the increase that God gives to you. What does “increase” include? “Increase” is everything that increases the value of earthly possessions that God places into your trust, whether it be earned income or unearned gifts. A tenth of everything that is “increase” to you belongs to God in the form of tithes. The tithe of your increase is not yours to give to God; it is God’s for you to give to God, and it is a privilege for us to have it to give to Him. The blessings that follow obedience to God concerning tithes and offerings are predicated on obedience to how God says to bring them, when God says to bring them, to whom God says to bring them, and where God says to bring them.
A blessed person is a child of a covenant. All of your needs will be taken care of by God! Thus says the Lord, “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse” (Genesis 12:3 NIV). How is God leading you to be a blessing to those in need around you? What resources, talents, gifts do you currently covet, that can be used to bless others? Stay in God’s blessings, stay focused, and God will bless you. Amen.
Scripture of the day:“Bring ye all the tithe into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts” ~(Mal. 3:10-11).
