Daily Devotional | Are You Prepared For The Journey

Matthew 16:24, 26 NKJV
Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”

Wealth, affluence, position, connections, cars, etc are all incentives of life; but when these things start to become idols, You’re in trouble! Do you know that no amount of wealth can buy you in to heaven?

A mother told a story about her neighbors sudden death. Her 5-year-old daughter was accustomed to seeing him daily, so felt obligated to explain to her he had gone on to heaven. Perplexed by the explanation, she ran to the window and asked, “why didn’t he take his car with him?” Learn this through the innocent mind of a 5-year-old… Regardless how much we make, or have, in death, all those possessions become obsolete, these things will remain on earth.

Are you ready for the journey? Death is real, heaven is real, hell is real also.  Are you keeping the instructions God gave to qualify you for eternal life? The bible says in(Luke 12:16-21), “And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops. Then he said, “This is what I’ll do, I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’  “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

The rich man was not ready for this! Some people are so consumed with the world and the things in it, they aren’t taking time to nurture a relationship with Jesus. Without that foundation of a relationship, you will never fully know how easy life could be.   Are your priorities with earthly possessions or the salvation of the Lord?

Scripture of the day: Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. ~ (james 4:14)

This is a masterpiece! A bitter truth!! You know, I have to constantly ask myself this question: ‘Am I ready?’ This is where I must need Jesus. Thank you for reminding me of the journey. Keep up the good work. God Bless.
