Ezekiel 12:2 NIV
“Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.
Rebellion is an open door to the demonic world. The Bible strictly warns us against rebellion, and it’s consequences are not to be taken lightly. God’s Word tells us that rebellion is in the same category of sin as witchcraft itself: “For rebellion is like the sin of divination…” (1 Samuel 15:23).
God had given to Adam only one restriction. “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die.” (Gen 2:16-17). Adam’s obedience to God hinged on believing, trusting, respecting and obeying that one commandment of God. After Eve was created, Adam must have told Eve about this command. But Eve listened more to the voice of the serpent (the devil) than to the voice of her husband. She took the fruit and ate it. (Gen. 3:1-8). Adam knew that his wife was lost because she was deceived by the serpent. Adam was not deceived (2 Tim 2:14). He deliberately rebelled against God, choosing to join his wife in sin rather than to cling to God. On that day they both died, spiritually. All the descendents of Adam now are born spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1). And spiritual death paves the way for eventual physical death, which brings to judgment and eternal condemnation those who have rebelled against the great God.
Just as God is the source of all authority, Satan is the author of all rebellion. We may recall that the Devil, a former archangel, was originally cast out of Heaven because he led an insurrection against God (Isa. 14:12-15). Rebellion is the very spirit of Satan’s attitude (Eph. 2:2), and if we permit it to dominate us, it will infect and taint our attitude toward all authority, including God and His Word.
Have you ever heard the expression, “I’m doing me” or “Do you?” Many people of this world, even some Christians, have taken this expression literally–pursuing a life independent of God. For example; fornication, living together unmarried, having babies out-of-wedlock, idol worshiping, witchcraft, homosexuality, occultism, etc. The bible is clear on these acts. The world we reside in today will justify your decision to rebel against God. Don’t be fooled, You will face dire consequences unless you repent, turn away, and follow Jesus.
The longer you live in rebellion against God, the harder it is to go back. God is relentless in His pursuit of the rebellious. You must make up your mind – the spirit of rebellion or the spirit of obedience to God. This means going a different way to the rest of the world which is led by this spirit of rebellion against God.
God will gain and hold the voluntary allegiance of His loyal children for all eternity. He will not do this through fear. He will do it through love. It will yet be proven that every act of God, even the destruction of the wicked, will be an act of love. One indication of God’s love is the suffering that He Himself has endured through the entire great controversy begun by Satan’s rebellion. Even with modern inventions like television, we see only a tiny portion of the suffering in the world. God sees it all, every second, every hour, night and day, without holidays or vacations! It is Satan who enjoys watching people suffer, and not because of his hatred for us. Satan knows how much it hurts God to watch His children suffer, and God is the object of his hatred. To Satan, we are merely pawns in his game. To God, we are the objects of His supreme affections. Even the destruction of Satan can bring no joy to the heart of God. He remembers him as he once was, and as he could have been.
The day is coming when peace, genuine peace, will reign throughout the entire universe. The Bible is the guide to how this peace will be established and how it will be maintained. When God’s plan of restoration is complete, the effects of Satan’s rebellion will be forever gone. Make up your mind today!
Scripture of the day: An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him. ~ Proverbs 17:11 KJV
