Daily Devotional | Breaking Generational Curses

Numbers 23:25 NKJV
“Then Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all!”
Generational curses are judgments that are passed on to individuals because of sins perpetuated in a family in a number of generations. Generational curses are similar to original sin curses because they can be passed down on a generational basis. They differ in that generational curses do not impose eternal judgment. They bring judgment or bondage during an individual’s life, reducing the quality of life, until that individual addresses the sin that put the curse into place. For example, a family that loses their children at the same time of the year, to the same type of disease or a family that loses their marriage. Curses can arise in many forms. It can come as a destruction of life and properties, as a stagnation of progress, affliction, an un-accomplished life. “Then Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all!”   As a Christian, be watchful of this type of curse. It is alive! Many of us come from various walks of life; from the journey of our great grand father/mother and self. A curse can pass from one person to the other. The Bible said that “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. And so it is written,  “The first man Adam became a living being.”  The last Adam  became  a life-giving spirit. (1 Corinthians 15:22, 45 NKJV). This confirms that curses can be transferred, and can be destroyed.
Are things in your life not as smooth as it should be? Re-occurring sicknesses, from riches to rags life style, chains of broken families, marriages, generations of drug addictions, generations of jail tenants, generations of murderers, generations of prostitutes, I can name to infinity? This is actually a trend of a generation curse. It’s not necessarily your fault, but the fact of the matter remains, someone in the lineage of your blood was cursed! That curse retains it powers, re-occurs at the same season, time, and in the same channel and pattern.
When you believe in Jesus Christ, the first thing you need to learn is the infallible authorities God laid up for all believers. You must remember that you were turned from death (sin) to life (Christ). The devil, enemies (people) and demons might try to remind you that you are not worth anything, but it is you that must remind yourself who God says you are. If you know it, say it, believe it and strive to live it, the Holy Spirit in you will gradually inch out the demonic agents that kept that curse alive.
You must remember who God is, His opinion of you, His defense towards you and His gift to you. Balaam told Balak that “God  is  not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Behold, I have received  a command  to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it. “He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God  is  with him, And the shout of a King  is  among them. God brings them out of Egypt; He has strength like a wild ox. “For  there is  no sorcery against Jacob, Nor any divination against Israel. It now must be said of Jacob And of Israel, ‘Oh, what God has done!’ Then Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all!” (Numbers 23:18-23, 25 NKJV)
This devotional is streamed towards reminding you as a believer that enemies can inflict you through words -CURSE. You must be a deep listener, a calculated speaker, an effective receiver, and an aggressive rejector. Do not believe whatever you do not want to happen, regardless who pronounced it. Most curses come as words, and sometimes spoken when a person is not aware. Do not agree with what you do not understand. Do not support any friend (in what you do not understand) to lie against someone. Do not treat prophesies sent to you with contempt. Give proper respect to elders, those in authority, (especially spiritual authority), and allow the Holy Spirit to instruct you.
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue that rises against you in judgment, you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness  is  from Me,” Says the Lord.” (Isaiah 54:17 NKJV). You must know the scripture by heart, it is the greatest covering God gave to all His children, and the greatest empowerment available to us. All of us. ” You have the power and authority to re-create your destiny. As a BORN AGAIN, every word of God from your mouth, every commandment of God you fulfill, will bring you the intended result you desire. That is the will of God.
Take a deep breath. Reflect inward, your past, your struggles. Start through worship and praise, then launch to prayer. Your life, yourself and your family must be changed. CAUTION: It might not be immediate, but it must come to pass. Remember, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. (Luke 17:6 NKJV), and “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. (John 8:36 NKJV) May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
Scripture of the day: See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse—  the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today; 28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known. ~ Deuteronomy 11:26-28 NIV
