Daily Devotional | Called Into Fellowship

1 Corinthians 1:9 NKJV
“God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Fellowship is a communion, a relationship with another person, thing or spirit of similar beliefs. It is an affectionate union, where sharing, trust and truth is the bedrock. Fellowship is a bonded relationship that depends on integrity, love and faithfulness. Jesus as the mentor of our fellowship explained; “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. (John 15:4 NKJV). The word abide means to stay with. As a believer, the deep, truthful fellowship with Christ is required to effectively make it work. In the human realm, our fellowship can only be good, productive, benefiting, empowering and rewarding  only if we have and follow Jesus Christ, His words, His ways and His commandments.
We are all called into fellowship. In fellowship, the minds and life of us should be as one – like that of Jesus. Fellowship is not the turnout, it is the attitude. Fellowship is not the division, it is the unity. Fellowship is sharing, caring and hoping. It is your LOVE demonstrated towards another.
(1). Fellowship is the attraction and bonding of like minds, spirits and people. For example, the church fellowships. There should not be any secrets, but all secrets must be exposed, so that God’s effective help, forgiveness and healing will take place. “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose  them.  For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.” (Ephesians 5:11, 12 NKJV)
(2). Fellowship should be cordial, candid and not an environment to plot against the innocent. Your fellowship must eschew evil intentions. It must be pure and edifying. “Shall the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law, Have fellowship with You? They gather together against the life of the righteous, And condemn innocent blood.” (Psalm 94:20, 21 NKJV)
(3). Fellowship must be transparent, inclusive of all people, races, nationalities, etc. It must be void of hypocrisy (church politics) and should reward the followers in spiritual growths. “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin”. (1 John 1:6, 7 NKJV)
(4). Most times as a believer, we ignore the saving commandment of God. Fellowship must be of those that believe in what you believe in! You don’t have to be politically or socially correct when it is about spiritual matters. Be careful, it is about your soul. The Bible says; “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?”. (2 Corinthians 6:14, 15 NKJV)
(5). Fellowship must encourage. It is an empowerment. The strength is in the agreement, and anything that upsets that unity must be quickly removed. Identify those that divide you. Avoid them, and if possible, remove them from your fellowship. If they cannot increase you, they must surely deplete you. “Two  are  better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him  who is  alone when he falls, For  he has  no one to help him up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9, 10 NKJV)
(6). In any fellowship, sharing is a watch-word. Everybody is the same. Since lives depends on another, it is encouraged that sincerity and kindness be entertained. Due to what fellowship entails, our strengths sometime could depend on the strength of the next person. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles”. (Acts 2:42, 43 NIV)
Since we are called into fellowship with Jesus Christ, and one-another, I ask… are you in fellowship? Is there any idea or thought, lifestyle, knowledge, rank, position etc., that makes you think that you don’t need this example? It is not of God! You are being isolated by the enemy, and that will cause pain and rejection. Going to church, believers meetings, bible study and more are forms of fellowship. To know and experience Christ in other people is to fellowship. Apostle Paul said; “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, (Philippians 3:10 NKJV) Stay Blessed. In Jesus Name, Amen.
