Daily Devotional | Money–The Test You Must Pass!

Exodus 20:17 NIV
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.””And you shall remember the Lord your God, for  it is  He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as  it is  this day.” (Deuteronomy 8:18 NKJV)

Money is a gift, a spirit that commands commodities. It is worthless without agreement, and powerful whenever agreed upon. The Bible warned about money, not because it is not good to have, but because, the pursuit of it might lead people away from following the creator who gives it with peace, wisdom and purpose.

Jesus speaking to His disciples in Luke 16:13 said; “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money”. The warning from Jesus is not about having money. The warning is the act of allowing the money to steal your love for God – IDOLATRY! Apostle Paul also warned that, “For the love of money is the root of all of  evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:10 NKJV). What do you see on television today?

In our democratic, money-march, and mongering society, people have shunned every warning of the Bible. If a church does not lie in the name of prosperity gospel, no one wants to be a member! The foundation of the gospel has gradually eroded, leaving nothing but unhealthy teachings. People have lost faith in studying. The truth is this, there are rich believers, and also poor. But as a believer, your riches should serve the poor, while the faith of the poor serve the rich. “Blessed  are  the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3 NKJV). Also, “Abram  was  very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.” (Genesis 13:2 NKJV). So you can be rich and a friend of God! Amen.

Moses warned while encouraging the children of God that they should “…Remember the Lord your God, for  it is  He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as  it is  this day”. (Deuteronomy 8:18 NKJV). This means (even for us today) that God gives each and every one of us the money we need, have or will have. It should not be used for evil inventions, innovations or explorations. As the Lord is Holy, so shall our use of His money. Is that what you see today? No! The rich gets richer, at the expense of the poor, but Jesus warned that when this happens, such kind would not represent God’s money. Money is meant to be spent, meet needs, help life. When it becomes a stockpile, the source suggests ungodly. “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)

THE TEST
(1). KEEPING YOURSELF GOD’S WAY: Can you honor God today, and do His will? If you can truly love and obey God, you must count your riches. The principle of sowing and reaping, giving and receiving, lending and borrowing, seed time and harvest time (investment timing), etc works, and still is working. “Keep your life from the love of money, and be content with what you have.” (Hebrews 13:5)

(2). BE PATIENT: Patience is an anointing that trusts God’s timing. Those that are patient receive God’s strength and rewards (Isaiah 40:31). Patience brings inner peace in the midst of storm. It is a priceless virtue. The Bible reminds us to “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. (Psalms 37:7,16). Be patient, work hard and receive when your time comes?

(3). LEARN: Be diligent and learn. Life is better than money. Instead of making the decision to get rich quick, and loose your soul, wait on the Lord. Paul wrote; “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:11-13)

(4). CHOOSE THE GOOD WAY: Making money the good or bad way is a choice. God’s way is the good way. Any way other than that is bad, destructive and restless. Many in our society today have all the money, but resort to drugs, alcohol, ungodly relationships for happiness, and still, are not satisfied. “Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle. (Proverbs 23:4, 5 NIV). ‘Money made quickly is life lose quickly’.

You now know what God thinks about money, what are you going to do differently today? Make the prayer of commitment and unleash yourself to God’s provisions. He never fails.

PRAYER: Solomon, the richest man ever prayed this “Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. (Proverbs 30:8, 9 NIV). Ask for the same wisdom, and God will answer you. Stay in the faith. Amen.

Scripture of the day: Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless. ~ Ecclesiastes 5:10
