Luke 6:38 NIV
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.””
JESUS WORDS ON GIVING
(1). Jesus said, “Matthew 5:42 “Give to him who keeps on begging from you, and do not turn
away from him who would borrow [at interest] from you.”
(2). Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38 NIV)
(3). But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. (Mark 12:42 NIV) [He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. (Luke 21:2 NIV)]
A biblical example is the story from 1 Kings 17:7-16 [The Zarephath Widow] 7 Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. 8 Then the word of the LORD came to him: 9 “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.” 10 So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” 11As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.”12 “As surely as the LORD your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.” 13 Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. 14For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD sends rain on the land.’” 15 She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. 16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah.
KEY LESSONS TO LEARN:
(1). Trust God’s ways, plans, his word and servants. (v10,15) Elijah obeyed God, and the widow obeyed Elijah. If you want to subdue the earth, obey God first! Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
(2). It is God’s pleasure to supply Your needs, if you let Him. (v7-9,16) it did not finish, it will not finish! WHY? God said so!!! Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
(3). When God put you to Test, put Him to Test by obedience. (v11,13) Malachi 3:10 “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove (test, try) me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”
(4). Whatever you can not give to God is an Idol. Idolatry is a rebellious SIN! 1 Timothy 6:10-11 “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.”
(5). A Givers hand is always on top of the receiver. Giving that rewards must give you joy! Acts 20:35 NIV “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” Giving sets us free, while hoarding entraps us (James 5:2). Giving changes the lives of others (John 3:16). Giving brings blessings back to us (Luke 6:38). Giving allows us to store up treasures in Heaven rather than here on earth (Matthew 19:21). Giving is really fun, freedom and more space! We need to give so that more space to keep what we are asking for will be made! God bless you today as you do this right thing. Go! Give! Give!!!
Scripture of the day: Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
