John 12:48 NIV
There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.
The thought of creating a god may be mystifying or abhorrent, but believe it or not, people do it everyday. To us(believers) God is the creator—no one can create Him or take His place. Yet the practice abounds in the minds of sinful man who does not want to face up to the fact that God has revealed Himself to man through Jesus Christ and in His Word—the Bible. Pagan religions have selected or created their gods in nature or carved them in wood and stone. Even in the Old Testament, God’s chosen people were prone to adopt the practices of their heathen neighbors. When Moses was on the mountain with God, receiving His commandments for worship, the people became impatient and created their own idol, a golden calf. It is a pertinent illustration of man’s tendency to create his own god rather than acknowledge the One who has revealed Himself to us and the revelation He has given us through the Holy Scriptures.
Paul speaks in Philippians 3:19 of enemies of the cross “whose God is their belly.” (KJV) Or as the MESSAGE paraphrases it, they “make their bellies their gods; belches are their praise; all they can think of is their appetites.” I am sure there are some like that today. The gods that are created by men may be personal or impersonal but they are substitutes for the one true God, Jesus Christ, maker of heaven and earth and perfect Redeemer.
People are always trying to create a god they will like and make them feel comfortable. They are quick to trivialize deity to arrive at a god which they feel is ‘more manageable.’
Our generation chooses to meet its spiritual needs by shopping for a faith that has fragments of Christianity mixed with Scientology, Buddhism, and any number of notions derived from ‘personal experience.’ Thus, although an overwhelming number of people will continue to say they believe in God, their conception of God will be as diverse as the items in a grocery store.
I am here to tell you, don’t be fooled! For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” Malachi 3:6 KJV Do not let this notion become a stronghold in your life. The devil is a liar!
When we construct an idea of God, we of course, disregard any claims for truth. Adherents of these new kinds of ‘faith’ can go on triumphantly, fabricating as many conceptions of God as there are cravings in the world. Twenty years ago we heard, ‘If it feels good, do it:’ Today, it is ‘If it feels good, believe it.’ Can you see the deception of the devil here?
Eastern mysticism and secular naturalism-particularly the emphasis on the ‘imperial self,’ have propelled people to seek meaning not in some god or moral system, but within. This method gives rise to all kinds of cults, new gods and new religions.
Whenever we begin with man and reason upward, we manufacture an idol. Our temptation is to invite ideas of God into our minds that are either just wrong or are notions that diminish Him. Idolatry is more than dancing around a statue of silver or gold; it is constructing a mental idea of a deity that bears little resemblance to the one true God, Jesus Christ.
This world is in trouble! People have fallen into Satan’s trap of deception; accepting this idea of New Age Religion, It promises to bring peace and enlightenment and to reunite man with God…A lie! This new widespread way of thinking is disguised in many forms; such as, yoga, transcendental meditation, tarot cards, astrology, black magic, witch-craft, mind science, psychics, etc. Many of these religions teach universal tolerance, which means anything goes. I call it, ‘feel-goodisms’. We want to bask in what’s comfortable to us, follow what feels good, accept what is accommodating to our life style. Well, the word of the one true God, Jesus Christ, is not sugar-coated, nor was it spoken to accommodate our feelings or our life style! Hebrews 4:12 says, the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Listen Readers, This New Age Movement uses a special terminology for these beliefs. words like holistic and synergistic thinking, networking, global unity and harmony, cosmic energy, awakening, consciousness, and human potential. They sound esoteric, colorful, and fascinating, but also hide the true religious content behind a scientific appearance. As a result, New Age practices have made their way into almost every area of the culture – sociology, psychology, medicine, the government, ecology, science, arts, the business community, the media, entertainment, sports, education, and even the church. Christians and non-Christians alike have been seduced to accept practices and beliefs that are clearly based on anti-Christian doctrines.
Listen people, satan is satan! He is the same satan from Genesis and the same satan of today. Satan and his servants will NOT appear to the majority of the world or “Church” as angels of darkness, but they will appear as angels of light, inasmuch as they will tell the people what they want to hear. We choose to ignore God for a more attractive alternative which accommodates our own desires instead of God’s, which is the very essence of Satanism.
In the same way, many have the common sense to fear God for self-preservation, yet tragically not enough to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow God. Therefore, those who love themselves more than God, will look for a church/religion where a servant of the Anti-Christ, abides with all the paraphernalia of Christianity, especially signs and wonders, so they can comfortably ignore God’s Word with a false sense of security and continue in their secular self-indulgent lifestyle. 2 Timothy 4:3-4: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths.”
You must come to God with a contrite heart, desiring His ways over your own, not simply because you fear the personal cost of hell; that will only prove your fear of God, but if that fear is only based on self-preservation and profit, then the Anti-Christ will be lurking at the door of your heart with an attractive alternative. Do not get caught in Satan’s ultimate lie, The Seduction of Christianity!
Scripture of the day:If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. ~ Deuteronomy 13: 1-3
