Daily Devotional | In The Secret Place With The Lord

Psalm 91:1, 2 NKJV
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “ He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

In chapter 11 of Hebrews, the author carefully talked about faith, men and God. He further explained their roles and God’s response. Each actor he concluded, spent quality time with God, and God diligently rewarded them with all that one could not imagine, including eternal life with Him.

Spending quiet time with the Lord is very important. Not only is it empowering, it also reveals more than the ordinary person can understand about God himself. Due to our dependent nature, God has reserved many rewards to those that will obey Him. According to Solomon, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).  We are made to honor and obey God.

The complete reward of  spending quality time with God , was recorded in Psalm 91. David explained vividly the benefits of having a moment of trusting and loving God without restrictions, through worship, obedience and in prayers.

Dwelling in the secret place of the Lord not only obliterated fear of the enemy, but also gives us the impetus to request our heart desires in the presence of God. The confidence of being before the Holy, Almighty God is so amazing that nothing matters. As the mark we all are striving to achieve, David prophetically highlighted God’s lavishing grace and love to those that will trust Him, and walk His ways.

1. Trusting God releases divine security. This security is not only in substances, but also in health, finances, and life. (Psalm 91:3)

2. Trusting the Lord dissolves fear; fear of the unknown, enemies, loss, lack, death etc. With the covering of the Lord, David recalled that “terror of night, the arrows that flies by day, the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday” (Psalm 91:5-6) are all defeated. As a believer, people around us might be losing their homes, livelihood, businesses, or health, but you are blessed to have yours! This is a rendition of the devil being defeated again, before our eyes! Amen. One of my favorite scripture verses in Proverb 18:10. says that, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”. Trusting the Lord and calling upon Him in the time of trouble, guarantees victory.

3. Spending quality time with the Lord shadows you with safety, releases healing and even increases more anointing. You are informed more than your peers, and also more powerful. God’s grace equally releases to his servants the divine information, good or bad. Having  forewarned information equips us to change courses, be prepared and remain conquerors. When bad things are happening to unbelievers, God’s covering and protection is guaranteed for the faithful. “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.” (Psalms 91:7)

I remembered the California fire incident. According to the news, all the houses within that region got burnt but one. On investigation, it was discovered that the house belonged to a retired Christian couples, who had given their lives helping others. God will not forget any record of good, and will not fail to reward, in this lifetime.

4. Making the Lord your priority commands a divine protection. You will become the witness of His blessings, favor and judgements. You will observe the punishment of the wicked (v8), disasters will flee from you, (v10), you will be protected from the evil ones, (v14), your prayers are certainly answered, (v15), you will be honored (v15), and live a long life (v16).

To those who love God, many are their possibilities. They are blessed, walking with angels that directs their paths. With strict instructions from God, these angels fight to defend you. According to the scripture, “They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.” (Psalms 91:12). In Hebrews 1:14, it says; “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”. But we are warned to be mindful of these angels which do not regularly appear as the images on the pictures; giants with wings, but could look like you, an average stranger Joe. “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Hebrews 13:2). This simply means that any good person, who will do to others as they would want others do to them will be blessed of the Lord. To do this, you must need the help of the Holy Spirit, and this is the portion of them that believe in Jesus Christ, as Lord and Savior. Are you ‘Born-Again’?

Intimacy with God is revealing. It unveils great information to the faithful, and releases wisdom that is required to stay victorious. Jacob asked to spend a quiet time with God, (Genesis 32:22-32). Within that time, he was blessed with God’s covenant, a baptism and change of name (v28), and eternal salvation (v30).
Victorious believers always testify that the source of their  strength was God. Their life stories reflect their service, loyalty, obedience, love, fellowship and gifts to God. In a nut shell, they were faithful to God and in constant pursuit of pleasing God, even to a point of losing their lives. They were called and they answered. They gave themselves up as a living sacrifice, and refused to be conformed to the patterns of this world, but transformed the world by the renewal of their minds (Romans 12:1,2). They served God wholeheartedly, and without reservations, convinced others to follow Christ. Their names were written on the marbles, and served as an example for us to follow.

How many times have you separated yourself to minister to God? Do you even think that this is necessary? Is there anything that troubles you, which within you, nobody can solve but God? Are you in any way in need of something; deliverance, healing, breakthrough, partner, help, etc.? Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30). To receive this relief is not as easy as your orders from McDonald’s. It requires your time, sincerity and loyalty. God has so much for His people, but the distractions of this world has put a limit on receiving. Break that ancient iron gate today. Create a secret place within you for God, and change the course of your destiny. Are you going to start now? God Bless You. Amen.
