Daily Devotional | Know Your Enemy

1 Peter 5:8, 9 NIV
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”

“Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and  cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon  and  devour.” (1 Peter 5:8 AMP)

As a believer, the first truth you have to know and accept is who your enemy is. If you aren’t aware of this, you are bound to lose a lot, blaming people whose weakness have offended you, or caused you pain. Be careful to look behind the mask (spiritually), and the truth will be revealed to you. Your enemy is Satan, the devil. He finds you when you are away from God, or is sent to you when God approves and wants to test you.

What does it mean to be vigilant and cautious at all times? This means to be careful on the choices you make, and on whose account you believe!

Believing God as a christian does not only ends in going to church, or attending fellowship meetings or crusades. It also mean to believe every written word (Bible) of God that you have read. Jesus said, “Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life; ….” ( John 5:39). This requires every believer to read and practice what they read. No exception!

Dealing with our enemy involves using all the divine arsenals which God through the Holy Spirit reveals to us. One, is the Name of Jesus Christ. The Bible says that, “at the Name of Jesus Christ, every knee bow, and every tongue confess that He is the Lord, to the Glory of the Father” (Philippians 2:10,11). For this weapon to work, you have to use it at the command of the giver, in pure heart.

Satan is afraid of the truth. The only absolute truth is the written word of God, – The Bible. Knowing and abiding in the truth of God not only secures, but guarantees victory against the Satan. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”(John 8:32). Any believer that deals nonchalantly with the word of God is playing with their life. Do not be naive, Satan or his demons are not ignorant of the word of God, and the truth is that he know the true children of God. “Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. (Job 1:9-10). How did he know? He is the prince of the air (Ephesian 2:2), the head of all demonic powers. Satan sits in his realm of heaven, watching the saints see God through prayers, worship and praise. He sees the joy on their faces as they receive the supplies from God. Then he waits for an opportunity. Staying under the shadow of God paralyzes Satan, and keeps him immobile. Rebellious believers suffers much loss, including death if they do not repent.

Avoiding temptation is only possible if you know how your mentor, Jesus Christ did it. You also have to know the greatest desire of your enemy. Like your earthly friends, if they are true, there is a character you know about them that only a friend would know. In the case of Satan, history recalled that his downfall was as a result of pride. He demanded worship! (Isaiah 14:12-15). To be a friend of God forever, you must have to deny satan, his demons, and all earthly agents! This calls for a character transformation; the way you talk, your anger, lifestyle, attire, associations, religion, etc. If you can identify with God all the time, you are doing well. This I mean: speak the word of God in all circumstance, good or bad, and avoid giving credit to satan in bad times. The revelation that the power satan uses against us, coming from God, is enough weapon for his defeat.

“And he (Satan) said to Him (Jesus), To You I will give all this power  and  authority and their glory (all their magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, and grace), for it has been turned over to me, and I give it to whomever I will.” (Luke 4:6 AMP). Why did Satan want to give away his power? He wanted worship! He is still looking for this. Unfortunately, the world has fallen for this. The emergence of the occults, new age false religions and wealth preaching ‘churches’ are the evidence. One of the greatest advice of Christ has been forgotten. Believers have forgotten the instruction of God, they quickly throw in the towel. Jesus said, “Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.”(John 6:27). Again He said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”(Matthew 6:33-34). Essentially, this advice; if adhered to, is able to dissolve all fears, strengthen all weakness and confirm all doubts. The truism of the word of God lies in its simplicity. With faith, you believe and receive God’s promises. There is no grey zone, for God is not a man who lies.

Dealing with your enemy commends practicing what you preach. Do not be ignorant, Your enemy is your accuser. He supplies the demons that mislead you, so he knows what you did wrong. It is only by the grace of God that you are not consumed. Every overcomer stays and wins with Christ. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”(Revelation 12:11)

Today, understanding that being a Christian calls for complete surrender to God’s authority. It is a gradual, but decisive progress. Precept by precept, the battle is won. “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7 NIV). Dealing with our enemy without obedience to the creator is a total loss, that will only end in pain and agony! Only Jesus Christ finished it all, and said “It is finished” (John 19:30).

What is your destiny? What is your destination? Knowing that your destiny is in your destination, it is therefore important to partner with the only person that knows the roadmap; the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ the Lord. He is the only authority that can re-assign your enemy (Job 1:6-7). He also have approved you (Job 1:8), and the only God that allowed you tested (Job 1:12).

Remember that you are of God, and greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. Stay focused. Stay connected, and defeat your enemy. God Bless you. Amen

Scripture of the day: 10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ~ Ephesians 6:10,11 KJV
