Daily Devotional | Digesting The Word Daily

Ezekiel 3:1 NIV
And he said to me, “Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the people of Israel.”

I have often taught that reading the Word of God daily is not sufficient. In order for the Word to take its place in our hearts where it can yield fruit, it must be more than ingested – it must be digested also. Ingesting merely puts food in your stomach; digesting processes it and gets the nutrients into your bloodstream. Thus, a person can actually starve to death on a full belly of undigested food.

If you don’t digest the word of God daily, the Holy Bible, you will spiritually die!

“The Bible gives us renewal. Listening to the voice of the Lord day by day keeps our Christian life continually fresh. It saves us from becoming stale, with all that implies of corruption and decay. Mouldy bread will not make anyone’s mouth water. Even so, the staleness displayed by many believers cannot be expected to draw anyone to Christ. Is your Christian life fresh every day? It can be so only if
you feed daily upon the heavenly manna (Exod. 16:13-15).

Jeremiah, The prophet Ezekiel and the apostle John assimilated and digested the Word of God daily. Food gives us strength. Our bodies cannot function without it. A person who is under-nourished will be skinny and weak in his constitution, and therefore unable to resist disease. He will also be unable to defend himself if physically assaulted by another. A small push will often be enough to knock him down. In exactly the same way, one who neglects the Word of God will be spiritually under-developed, and consequently unable to resist temptation and to withstand the Devil’s onslaughts. Only those who regularly meditate on God’s Word grow into strong virile Christians (1 John 2:14).

Mere reading of the Bible will not make you strong, but meditation upon it allows the Word to penetrate into the very core of your being and thus to become a part of you, hidden in your heart (Psa.119:11).

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 God’s words, Jesus’ words are recorded through the Holy Spirit in this book, the Holy Bible.

It is not just a history book, although there is history in here.

It is not just a story book about the prophets and Jesus, although there are stories in here.

It’s not just a book about prophecies and what the future holds, although it’s all in here.

This book, is the living, power filled words which have come from the mouth of God through the Holy Spirit, pen to papyrus, spirit to word, the mind and heart of God’s plan to redeem man and repair what was lost because of the fall of man.

This book is a record of the beginning of our time, straight through to the end of our time.

God is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end of all that is, all that was and all that will ever be.

This book is your key to a relationship with the Lord, from where we gain knowledge and understanding so that we can whether the storms in our lives and grow in the Lord.

This book holds the mysteries of life and death, the understanding of the ages that were and are to come.

This book is your passport to the here after, faith comes by hearing the word of God, read it, study it, take it in, the words of the Lord need to fill your heart, overflow from your mouth, and your works through the Holy Spirit will make your faith ALIVE! Faith without works is dead. (James 2:17).

Be blessed in Jesus name. Amen

Scripture of the day: Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” ~ John 14:21
