Daily Devotional | God Is A Consuming Fire

Numbers 33:55
But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

I discovered that the closer I came to the Lord, I received wonderful dreams and Words from Him. However, I also received really bad demonic dreams. Why? Scripture says that our God is a consuming fire(Hebrews 12:29), and He is going to consume everything that needs to be burned out of our lives. The Israelites were warned that when they came into their promised land, if they did not drive out the foreigners, these would remain as pricks and thorns to vex them. Demonic dreams are definitely a vexation to get our attention.

Just about anything or anyone can draw our hearts away from God. Is there anything in your life that consumes you more than Jesus Christ? Is there anything or anyone that you lust for that distracts you from your devotion to Christ? It can be very subtle and if left unchecked, will overwhelm you and draw you deeper and deeper into idolatry. Take heed, “For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.”(Deuteronomy 6:15)

God will remove everything in your life that you put before Him. Matthew 22:37 commands that we love the Lord with all of heart and mind. God wants to fellowship with you, but if He’s not first in your life, you’ll find yourself making excuses for why you can’t spend time in His Word and in fellowship with Him. You’ll miss out on what He wants to add to you.

Ask yourself the following questions:

– Do you spend time with God everyday, and does that time take priority over everything and everyone else?

– Do your personal pursuits line up with the plan of God for your life? If you are pursuing areas God doesn’t want you involved in, then your pursuit is a waste of time.

– If God told you to give something away, would you do it no matter how hard you worked for it? If you realized your possessions are a blessing from God, then you won’t have a problem giving them away.

– Are you a doer of the Word, are you doing what God has told you to do? Isaiah 1:19 tells us, “If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land…”

God’s laws of increase will not work for you, If you do not seek him first. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)

Be willing and obedient to seek God in every area of your life and you will certainly eat the good of the land!

Scripture of the day: “No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” ~ Luke 16:13
